Delegation of Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), headed by director of the Institute, Dr. Celestine E. Ikuenobe, visited the oil palm fields and an oil palm germplasm collection as well a tissue culture laboratory of Rubber Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS-RRI) in Danzhou, Hainan, China on June 23, 2016. Dr. Ikuenobe and his colleague Dr. Osayande L. Ihase shared their experiences with the scientists of the CATAS-RRI, and spoke highly of the work done in the collection and tissue culture lab. They also showed the pictures of dwarf oil palm which are much shorter than those in the collection. Scientists of both sides expressed their interest in joint application for collaborative projects in oil palm. Senior Officer Prof. Zhou Jiannan, Prof. Lin Weifu, Associate Prof. Zeng Xianhai, Mr. Li Weifang and Mr. Pan Denglang joined in this visit, three researchers from Coconut Research Institute also joined in this visit.
