On 20thJanuary 2017, Mr. Piao Yongfan, chief technical officer of FAO Asia-Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, Madam Fu Rong, Officer of FAO Representative Office in China, and Mr. Guo Rong, Officer of China National Agricultural Technical Extension Centre, conducted in Haikou a symposium on the pre-assessment of the project “Research and Extension of Safety and Higher Yield Winter Vegetable Production in Hainan”. Attended the symposium were officers and researchers from Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture, Hainan Provincial Agriculture Exotic Cooperation and Exchange Centre, Tropical Plants Genetic Resources Research Institute of CATAS as well as farmers field school instructors, totally 30.
At the symposium, Li Minying, Director of Foreign Cooperation Division under the Provincial Department of Agriculture in addressing to the symposium hoped that all project implementation institutions should take advantage of the project implantation to extend the integrated safety and efficient vegetable production technology to vegetable growers over the whole province. Meanwhile, he wished that all agricultural institutions in Hainan should have more profound cooperation with FAO through this project.
Professors Yang Yan and Dang Xuanmin from the Vegetable Research Lab of the Tropical Plants Genetic Resources Research Institute under CATAS briefed to the symposium participants the advanced, safety and higher yield technology extended in the project and the positive effects of the project on the promotion of Hainan’s agricultural development and the enhancement of technical capability of vegetable growers in Hainan. He Huan, an assistant researcher, project officer also reported to FAO officers progress of the project made during the last two years. Those field instructors made reports on their jobs and progress to the participants as well.
Mr. Piao Yongfan showed his confirmation of the achievements of the projects as the results of efforts from project implementation institutions, and hoped to further extend the successful experience and technology applied in the project so as to benefit more farmers. Meanwhile he urged the project implementers to complete various data and documents preparing for the project termination assessment on April.
A post-symposium field tour was made by FAO and domestic officers to the training bases of the project in Wuyi Tianyang of Haikou, Qionghai, Lingshui, and Danzhou.
