On February 28th, thanks to the invitation from Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) organized experts to attend Virtual Seminar on Improvement of UAE Date Palm Planting. Ali Al Dhaheri, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to China, and Liu Guodao, vice president of CATAS, were present at the meeting.

Ali Al Dhaheri stressed that the United Arab Emirates and China had carried out extensive and in-depth cooperation in many fields such as agricultural science and technology, food security and environmental protection. Now, agricultural collaboration between the two expanded to a new field as the United Arab Emirates donated 100,000 date palm seedlings to China, and the first batch of 1,500 were planted in Wenchang City, Hainan Province.
Liu Guodao introduced that the planting of 263 date palm seedlings witnessed by his excellency Ali Al Dhaheri last year was successful as all of them thrived due to the scientific management of CATAS. Guided by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, CATAS was committed to "introduction in batches, planting at mutil-locations, stepwise refinement”. In that case, the academy would advance cooperation between China and the United Arab Emirates on pest control, seedling breeding, efficient cultivation of date palm. Moreover, CATAS would promote the introduction and transplanting of Chinese date palm with contribution to the flourishing of the date palm tree of friendship between the two nations.
On the seminar, Lv Chaojun, Zhang Ning and Xu Zhongliang of CATAS gave reports entitled onMonitoring and Control Technology of Red Palm Weevil,Efficient Regeneration Technology of Date Palm Tissue CultureandPlanting of Date Palm in Hainan. In 2015, Date Palm Research Center of China and the United Arab Emirates was established as the two cooperated in pest control of date palm trees. Furthermore, the center focused on the efficient regeneration technology system of date palm tissue culture, providing scientific support to pest control and the development industry of the trees.
Also, the seminar was attended by workers of Department of International Cooperation ofMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Bureau of State Farms of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates and Alfoa, a company engaged in date palm production and processing in the United Arab Emirates.
